Mawazine 2026 lineup features Macy Gray, Ty Dolla $ign and global acts
The 2026 edition of the Mawazine festival is shaping up to be one of the most internationally diverse in the event's history, with a lineup spanning American R&B, Amazigh folk revival, transatlantic world music, Anatolian heritage, and Moroccan popular tradition. Performances are scheduled across multiple venues in Rabat and Salé throughout late June, with each stage reflecting a distinct cultural register.
American singer Macy Gray headlines at the Théâtre National Mohammed V on June 20. Known for her raspy, instantly recognizable voice and a career that has sold over 33 million albums worldwide, Gray broke through in 1999 with her triple-platinum debut and has since earned a Grammy Award, two BRIT Awards, and collaborated with artists ranging from Ariana Grande to Galactic. She has also built a parallel acting career, appearing in films such as Training Day and For Colored Girls. Her Mawazine appearance coincides with a tour supporting her forthcoming album, Love Songs for Big Hearts and Robots.
Also on June 20, the Salé stage hosts Rif Experience, a group from Al Hoceima formed in 2008 that has become a leading force in the modernization of Izran, the ancient Amazigh poetic song tradition of the Rif region. Their catalogue includes projects such as Izran and Thinfass, along with tracks like Yemma, Mariam, and Tharifith, which have earned them a loyal following both in Morocco and among the diaspora. On June 24, the historic Chellah site welcomes Ayom, a multicultural ensemble bringing together musicians from Brazil, Angola, Italy, and Greece under the leadership of Brazilian singer and percussionist Jabu Morales. The group takes its name from an Afro-Brazilian candomblé deity associated with music and the drum, and its sound draws on Afro-Lusophone traditions, tropical rhythms, and collective spiritual energy.
Ty Dolla $ign takes the main international stage at the OLM Souissi on June 26. One of the most prolific figures in contemporary American urban music, he counts nearly 36 million monthly Spotify listeners and over 26 billion cumulative streams on the platform. His collaborations include massive hits such as Work from Home and Sucker for Pain, and his track Psycho received a diamond certification from the RIAA in 2022. His most recent solo project, Tycoon, marked his return to full-length releases after a five-year gap. The Chellah stage closes out the announced program on June 27 with Turkish-Kurdish artist Ali Doğan Gönültaş, a singer, tembur player, and researcher born in the eastern Anatolian town of Kiğı, whose debut album documented vanishing Kurdish, Armenian, and Turkish oral traditions from his region. That same evening, Walid Rahmani performs on the Salé stage, representing a new generation of Moroccan artists keeping the chaâbi and aïta traditions alive with high-energy live shows. His tour LAMMA and a celebrated Casablanca concert at the Megarama have cemented his reputation as one of the most electrifying performers on the Moroccan popular music circuit.
