Morocco highlighted among UN examples of mediation and public participation

Morocco has been highlighted in a United Nations report examining the role of national human rights institutions in mediation, coordination and public participation as tools for advancing development.

The reference to Morocco comes in the annual report of the Expert Mechanism on the Right to Development, presented in connection with the 63rd session of the UN Human Rights Council.

The report specifically mentions Morocco in the context of a thematic dialogue on “public participation as a tool for development,” held during the 12th session of the Expert Mechanism on the Right to Development.

Morocco was cited alongside Kenya and Mexico as an example of countries where national human rights institutions have played a key role in mediation and coordination. According to the report, such involvement can help bring public policies into closer alignment with the needs and expectations of civil society.

The UN document also highlighted Morocco’s participation in the 13th session of the Expert Mechanism, held in New York, listing the country among the UN member states that delivered general statements during the proceedings.

Morocco also appeared in the participant lists for both the 12th and 13th sessions, alongside representatives of Moroccan civil society organizations, including the Moroccan League for Citizenship and Human Rights.

References to Morocco appear notably in paragraphs 15 and 29 of the report, as well as in the final section listing participants, reflecting the country’s engagement with the UN mechanism dedicated to the right to development.

The Expert Mechanism on the Right to Development reports to the Human Rights Council and examines different dimensions of the right to development while promoting the exchange of experiences and good practices. Its work also focuses on strengthening the participation of governments, national institutions and civil society in development policies and processes.

Morocco’s inclusion among the examples cited in the report highlights the growing international attention given to the role of national human rights institutions in facilitating dialogue, mediation and coordination between public authorities and civil society.
