Louis Roquebert, 23, becomes the new leader of young Macron supporters
At just 23 years old, Louis Roquebert, a political activist from Cholet (Maine-et-Loire), has been elected as the new president of the Young Macronists (Jeunes en Marche - JEM), the youth branch of France's centrist party Renaissance. Roquebert secured 63% of the votes (1,598 out of 2,650), succeeding Ambroise Méjean, who had led the group for six years.
Roquebert, a former vice president of the JEM, has an academic background from the Catholic University of the West and currently works at Sciences Po. He is no stranger to politics, having run on a macronist ticket in the 2020 municipal elections and later in the 2021 departmental elections.
A former collaborator of Stéphane Séjourné, former party chief of Renaissance (formerly La République En Marche), Roquebert played a central role in modernizing the youth movement. According to insiders, he spearheaded “several major campaigns” and led the redesign of the movement’s visual identity.
Earlier this July, Roquebert organized the 10-year anniversary meeting of JEM, which featured a surprise appearance by President Emmanuel Macron. During the event, Macron urged his supporters to focus on action rather than prematurely aiming for the 2027 presidential race, in a clear message to the party's younger generation.
Current party leader Gabriel Attal praised Roquebert’s election on X (formerly Twitter), calling him “a figure of our values” and stating he was counting on his “talent and commitment” for the future.
