Kuwait arrests 24 people suspected of financing “Terrorist” entities
Kuwait’s Interior Ministry announced the arrest of 24 individuals suspected of involvement in financing activities linked to “terrorist” organizations, in a major security operation aimed at protecting national stability.
According to official statements, security forces dismantled what authorities described as a criminal network accused of collecting and transferring funds under religious pretexts. The money was allegedly redirected abroad following instructions from outside the country, though officials did not specify the destinations or organizations involved.
A security source, speaking anonymously, indicated that five former members of parliament were among those detained. One of the suspects had previously been stripped of their nationality, according to the same source.
Authorities stated that the operation successfully prevented what they described as an attempt to undermine the country’s security through illicit financial activity. Investigations are ongoing to determine the full scope of the network and its connections.
Kuwaiti officials also reported that the suspects were found in possession of funds linked to prohibited activities. The case is part of a broader effort to strengthen financial oversight and prevent illegal transfers potentially connected to extremist groups.
In recent months, Kuwait has carried out several security operations targeting individuals suspected of links to militant organizations. Authorities have previously detained suspects accused of connections to regional armed groups, though such organizations have denied operating within the country.
The Gulf region has increased surveillance and enforcement measures amid heightened regional tensions. Governments in the area have stepped up efforts to counter illegal financing networks and monitor activities suspected of supporting extremist movements.
Officials emphasize that these measures are part of ongoing strategies to safeguard national security and prevent foreign interference in domestic affairs.
