Iranian Americans react with grief and anger to Tehran’s deadly crackdown
Iranian communities across the United States have expressed deep sorrow and outrage following reports of a violent repression of protests in Iran, which has resulted in thousands of deaths according to opposition groups and human rights organizations.
Large demonstrations were held over the weekend in Los Angeles and New York, where members of the Iranian diaspora gathered to denounce the actions of the Iranian authorities and show solidarity with protesters in their country of origin. Many participants carried signs condemning what they described as widespread violence and systematic repression.
Several demonstrators shared personal stories of relatives affected by the unrest. For many Iranian Americans, the events have reopened painful memories of exile and reinforced a sense of distance and helplessness as access to information from Iran remains restricted.
The protests have also highlighted divisions within the diaspora over the role of foreign powers and political alternatives for Iran’s future. While some participants called for stronger international pressure, others warned against external interference and emphasized the right of Iranians inside the country to determine their own political path.
As uncertainty continues, Iranian Americans say they will maintain public demonstrations and advocacy efforts, hoping international attention may help reduce the violence and protect civilians.
