CASABLANCA - Faouzi Annajah, the Moroccan founder of Franco-Moroccan automaker NamX, has unveiled new details about the revolutionary hydrogen-powered technology that will propel the company’s upcoming NamX Huv sport utility vehicle. Collaborating with renowned Italian coachbuilder Pininfarina, NamX aims to make premium, sustainable mobility accessible through pragmatic innovation.

NamX has opted for an internal combustion engine (ICE) to propel its new hydrogen vehicle. This unexpected decision underscores NamX’s practical approach, utilizing proven technology to fulfill its environmental commitments. Instead of relying on expensive and supply-constrained fuel cell systems, NamX will capitalize on the advantages of a reliable, cost-effective powerplant to make hydrogen mobility more attainable.

As legacy automakers have recognized, ICE systems benefit from decades of investment and continuous improvements. Hydrogen ICE vehicles sidestep the main drawbacks of fuel cell alternatives, which rely on scarce and ecologically taxing rare earth metals. The greater stability and predictability of ICE production costs shield both businesses and consumers from the volatility of metal markets.

Furthermore, ICE systems exhibit superior robustness over fuel cells in real-world use. While fuel cells necessitate ultra-pure, filter-clogging hydrogen, combustion engines readily use cheaper, impure blends. These specific traits position hydrogen ICE cars as a durable, cost-effective choice for the long haul.

Through a thoughtful engineering strategy, Moroccan pioneer Faouzi Annajah's NamX venture aims to overcome key obstacles on the path to cleaner transportation. Its cost-conscious hydrogen SUV may bring sustainable driving one step closer to reality.
