Hungarian opposition leads Orban’s fidesz, poll shows
Hungary’s political landscape appears increasingly competitive ahead of the upcoming parliamentary election, as a recent opinion poll suggests that the opposition has gained a significant lead over the ruling party.
According to survey results published by a national newspaper, the centre-right Tisza party, led by Peter Magyar, is currently ahead of the governing Fidesz party of Prime Minister Viktor Orban.
The poll indicates that among voters who have already made up their minds, 52% support the Tisza party, while 39% favor Fidesz. When considering all respondents, including undecided voters, support stands at 38% for Tisza and 29% for Fidesz.
Despite these figures, the outcome of the election remains uncertain. A substantial portion of the electorate—around a quarter—has yet to decide which party to back, leaving room for potential shifts in voter sentiment.
Prime Minister Orban, who has been a dominant figure in Hungarian politics for over a decade and a half, is now facing what analysts describe as one of the strongest challenges to his leadership in years. The rise of the Tisza party reflects growing political momentum within the opposition, particularly among voters seeking change.
As election day approaches, attention will focus on undecided voters, whose choices could ultimately determine the direction of Hungary’s political future.
