Béziers jewelry store armed robbery causes estimated €800,000 loss

A jewelry store located inside the Auchan shopping center in Béziers, in southern France, was targeted in an armed robbery on Thursday morning, resulting in an estimated loss of around €800,000.

According to initial reports, the incident occurred around 9:30 a.m. when an individual wearing an orange vest and a red construction helmet entered the shopping gallery. He allegedly broke the security chains of an emergency exit near the jewelry store, allowing two masked accomplices to enter the premises.

Once inside the store, the two suspects threatened a female employee who was alone at the time. She managed to escape and took refuge in a nearby shop. The first suspect then retrieved a shotgun from a vehicle outside and appeared to supervise the robbery while his accomplices looted the store.

A video recorded by a witness and shared on social media shows the armed individual standing in the main corridor of the shopping center while the other two carried out the theft inside the jewelry store.

An investigation has been opened to identify and locate the suspects. Authorities are examining security footage and witness statements as part of efforts to reconstruct the exact sequence of events.
