Hamza Igamane secures $13.7m transfer to Lille after Rangers stint

Hamza Igamane has completed a $13.7 million move to Lille OSC, ending his one-year spell at Rangers. The 22-year-old Moroccan striker joined the French club after a turbulent final week in Scotland, where he declined to come off the bench during a match against St Mirren, citing a quad issue.

Rangers confirmed the transfer in a statement, expressing gratitude for his contributions and wishing him success in France. Igamane’s departure marks a significant profit for the Scottish side, who signed him from Morocco’s AS FAR for $2.2 million last summer. The Rabat-based club is also set to benefit financially, having secured a sell-on clause in the original deal.

Impressive debut season despite challenges

Igamane recorded 16 goals in 46 appearances for Rangers across all competitions. His highlights included a Europa League brace against Nice, a hat-trick against Hibernian, and a crucial Old Firm winner at Celtic Park. These performances earned him Rangers’ Young Player of the Year award and his first senior cap for Morocco earlier this year.

However, a scoring drought in the spring fueled speculation about his future. Lille’s activation of his release clause this week sealed the transfer, giving Igamane a fresh start in Ligue 1.

Lille's vision for Igamane

The French club described Igamane as a forward with "explosiveness, pressing ability, and significant potential for growth." Lille aims to develop him further as a key player in their squad. The move also reflects the club's strategy of investing in emerging talent with long-term promise.

Igamane now sets his sights on making an impact in France, hoping to replicate his success in Scotland during his time at Lille.
