Hammouchi hails success of 93rd Interpol General Assembly in Marrakech

The 93rd General Assembly of the International Criminal Police Organization (INTERPOL) concluded in Marrakech with notable success, according to Abdellatif Hammouchi, Morocco’s Director General of National Security and Territorial Surveillance. Speaking at the closing ceremony, Hammouchi highlighted the event’s achievements, describing it as a milestone in global security cooperation.

The assembly, which drew over 800 delegates from 179 countries, including 82 police chiefs, marked one of the most significant gatherings in Interpol’s history. Hammouchi praised the high level of participation and the impact of the resolutions adopted, emphasizing Morocco’s commitment to fostering an environment conducive to productive discussions.

Hammouchi underlined Morocco's belief that national security is interconnected with global security, stressing that protecting Moroccan citizens is strengthened when all Interpol member states collaborate effectively. He noted that the assembly’s recommendations and resolutions would enhance global efforts to combat transnational threats, promote stability, and ensure peace.

In his address, Hammouchi commended outgoing Interpol President Ahmed Nasser Al-Raisi for his leadership in unifying the organization’s vision and fostering cooperation. He also welcomed newly elected Interpol President Lucas Philippe, assuring him of Morocco’s full support and readiness to collaborate within the framework of Interpol’s statutes.

The assembly tackled pressing global security issues, including organized crime, fraud networks, and the advancement of gender equality in law enforcement. Delegates worked to strengthen Interpol’s capabilities and expand international partnerships, underscoring the importance of collective action in addressing modern security challenges.

The closing ceremony was attended by prominent national and international figures, including Al-Raisi, Philippe, Interpol Secretary General Valdecy Urquiza, and several top Moroccan officials, such as Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita, Minister Delegate for the Budget Fouzi Lekjaa, Royal Gendarmerie Commander Mohamed Haramou, and Wali of the Marrakech-Safi region Khatib El Hebil.

Recognized as the largest global gathering of law enforcement leaders, the General Assembly reinforced Morocco’s position as a key player in international security matters. Hammouchi reiterated the country’s commitment to fostering trust, mutual respect, and joint action to confront shared challenges.
