Hamas strikes Tel Aviv in retaliation to Israel’s deadly assault
Israel’s military operation in Gaza escalates, with air strikes intensifying after weeks of standstill. The country resumed air campaigns on Tuesday, marking the continuation of deadly offensives, drawing global condemnation. As of now, Gaza’s civil defense agency has reported 504 fatalities, including over 190 children, amid the assault.
In retaliation, Hamas fired rockets at Tel Aviv, targeting the city in response to Israel’s actions, which they have condemned as "massacres." The Israeli military intercepted one of the rockets, with two others striking uninhabited areas. The attacks follow Israel's decision to close the main north-south route in Gaza, with forces expanding ground operations that began on Wednesday.
At the Indonesian Hospital in northern Gaza, grieving families, devastated by the ongoing violence, have called for an immediate ceasefire, voicing their pleas to the international community. "We want a ceasefire!" one family member said, highlighting the defencelessness of the Palestinian people.
On Thursday, the Israeli army prohibited movement on Gaza’s central road, citing security reasons, and shifted traffic to an alternate coastal route. Meanwhile, tensions continue to rise as the situation remains dire, with humanitarian organizations and officials describing the ongoing bombings as "inhumane."
Iran’s Supreme Leader condemned the Israeli strikes, calling them a "catastrophic crime," and emphasized that the United States shares responsibility for the violence. The war, ignited by Hamas' October 2023 attack on Israel, has resulted in a staggering death toll. Gaza’s civil defense agency confirmed that at least 470 more deaths were recorded since the resumption of Israeli air strikes, bringing the overall death toll in Gaza to more than 48,570.
