Grand Rex relaunches its trailer festival for 2026 films
The iconic Grand Rex cinema in Paris is bringing back its trailer festival after several years of hiatus. Scheduled for January 5, 2026, the free event will showcase promotional previews of the most anticipated French and international films of the year.
Alexandre Hellmann, General Director of the Grand Rex, explained that the idea of the festival started in 2013 with the trailer for Man of Steel. “Watching Superman fly into space, I realized some trailers need to be seen on the big screen. YouTube is fine for a first look, but the real experience is in a cinema,” he said.
The evening will feature 40 to 50 trailers in a festive atmosphere, with an emcee guiding the audience who can cheer or boo the clips. The event is designed more as a fun, communal celebration rather than a formal festival.
This year’s festival also unveiled its promotional poster, created using artificial intelligence, featuring fictional movie images alongside recognizable characters like Batman. “It’s meant to generate excitement about upcoming films, not reveal them,” Hellmann clarified.
The 2026 lineup promises several major releases, including Chloé Zhao’s Hamnet (January 21), The Devil Wears Prada 2 (April 29), Christopher Nolan’s L’Odyssée (July 15), and Avengers: Doomsday (December 16).
Earlier this year, the Grand Rex was voted the most beautiful cinema in the world by the British magazine group Time Out, marking another distinction for the landmark venue located on Boulevard Poissonnière.
