FIFA reopens ticket sales for 2026 World Cup matches

The FIFA will release a new batch of tickets for the 2026 FIFA World Cup on Wednesday, less than 50 days before the tournament begins. The additional tickets cover all 104 matches scheduled between June 11 and July 19, reflecting continued high demand for the expanded competition.

Sales are set to open at 16:00 Moroccan time through FIFA’s official ticketing platform. Tickets will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis, with immediate purchase required depending on availability. Supporters are expected to log in at the exact opening time to maximize their chances of securing seats.

Demand for the tournament has already reached significant levels. More than five million tickets have been sold out of an estimated total of around seven million. The new release includes multiple categories, including seats located close to the pitch, which are typically among the most sought-after options.

FIFA president Gianni Infantino has indicated that attendance could surpass previous records, including the 1994 edition, which drew more than 3.5 million spectators. The 2026 tournament, co-hosted by the United States, Mexico, and Canada, will feature 48 teams for the first time, increasing the number of matches and overall ticket supply.

The ticketing process has also drawn criticism. Supporter groups and consumer advocates have raised concerns over pricing levels and the perceived lack of transparency in allocation. FIFA maintains that prices reflect exceptional demand and vary depending on the profile of each match, particularly for high-demand fixtures.

The new sales phase is expected to intensify competition among fans seeking access to the tournament, as availability continues to narrow ahead of kickoff.
