Empowering Moroccan Enterprises A New Initiative to Boost Skills and Employment
The German International Cooperation Agency (GIZ), in collaboration with Morocco’s Ministry of Industry and Trade, has launched an ambitious call for expressions of interest under its "Partnership for Employment" (PPE) program. This initiative, a key aspect of Moroccan-German cooperation, aims to enhance employment opportunities by equipping private enterprises in Morocco with customized training programs tailored to their specific needs.
The initiative targets companies with development projects capable of generating sustainable employment opportunities. Its ultimate goal is to align workforce skills with industry requirements while promoting responsible practices, such as economic empowerment for women and environmental sustainability.
Tailored Training for Employment
Participating companies will benefit from bespoke training programs designed to address skill gaps commonly identified during recruitment. These practical, results-oriented courses—spanning five to fifteen days—cover a range of topics, including soft skills, digital tool usage, energy efficiency, and environmental protection. Although these sessions are primarily aimed at prospective hires, current employees whose roles align with the submitted projects may also participate.
The initiative is open to private enterprises operating in Morocco, including foreign-owned companies, provided they meet specific criteria. These include an annual turnover exceeding five million dirhams and plans to recruit at least ten employees by 2025. Applicants must submit their proposals by January 17, 2025. A selection committee will evaluate submissions to identify eligible companies.
Shared Commitment for Mutual Benefit
While GIZ Morocco will cover the costs associated with mobilizing expert trainers, participating companies are expected to contribute by providing facilities or covering other expenses, such as meals. It is worth noting that the training sessions under this program will not lead to formal certification or diplomas.
A Broader Vision for Employment
The PPE initiative is part of Germany’s broader “Invest for Jobs” program, which seeks to foster decent employment and support sustainable business growth in Morocco. From 2023 to 2026, GIZ will implement PPE activities in two main areas:
1. Skill Development: Empowering companies with access to a qualified workforce.
2. Sustainable Business Growth: Supporting companies’ expansion while ensuring employment effects.
Additionally, the project collaborates with similar initiatives in other countries to replicate and scale successful approaches across borders.
Driving Regional Impact
The overarching goal of the German-led initiative is to create up to 100,000 quality jobs and improve working conditions in eight partner African countries. Through initiatives like PPE, Morocco stands to not only boost its workforce’s skill levels but also to position itself as a model for sustainable, inclusive employment practices in the region.
By empowering enterprises and aligning workforce capabilities with industry demands, this partnership underscores a shared commitment to fostering sustainable economic growth and addressing key employment challenges in Morocco.
