Dijon school fire confirmed as retaliation linked to anti-drug operations
The arson attack that partially destroyed a middle school in Dijon in December has been confirmed as a deliberate act of retaliation connected to anti-drug operations carried out in the area, according to the local prosecutor.
Speaking on Thursday, prosecutor Olivier Caracotch stated that the fire was intentionally set following what he described as “firm and determined action” by law enforcement authorities aimed at dismantling drug trafficking networks in the neighborhood.
As part of the investigation, a 27-year-old woman has been formally charged, while four minors aged between 15 and 17 have been brought before a juvenile judge. Authorities believe the suspects were directly involved in planning or carrying out the arson attack against the Champollion middle school.
The case highlights growing concerns over reprisals targeting public institutions in response to intensified police efforts against organized crime and drug trafficking. Judicial authorities stressed that the investigation remains ongoing and that further legal action may follow.
