Commemorating 30 years since the passing of Mohammed Khaïr-Eddine

A commemorative day will mark the 30th anniversary of the passing of Moroccan writer Mohammed Khaïr-Eddine (1941–1995) at the Faculty of Letters and Human Sciences in Beni Mellal on December 13, 2025. The event, organized by the LRALLARC Laboratory in partnership with the Eurêka Association, seeks not to simply honor the author but to explore the profound meanings of writing when language, history, and territory intertwine with existence.

Khaïr-Eddine’s writing is far from decorative; it is a bold stance against a resisting reality. This symposium will delve into critical themes central to his work, such as self-expression, the connection to Souss as a lived and imagined space, the tension between displacement, memory, and belonging, and his creative engagement across multiple languages including French, Arabic, and Amazigh.

Particular focus will be given to Le Dernier Journal, a text where Khaïr-Eddine confronts illness, time, and the spiritual dimensions of his experience. This work, along with his earlier writings, offers a lens to understand how literature can respond to historical violence and the constraints of language.

Open to researchers, educators, doctoral students, and students, the event aims to foster reflection on a body of work that continues to challenge the relationship between literature, territory, and the responsibility of the writer.
