Paris book festival records highest attendance since 2022

The Paris Book Festival has reached its highest attendance since its relaunch in 2022, drawing a record number of visitors and confirming its growing cultural appeal. Organizers reported that more than 120,000 people attended the event over three days, surpassing last year’s already strong turnout.

The festival’s success highlights renewed public interest in literary events, even as broader concerns persist about declining reading habits. Notably, a significant portion of attendees were young people, including thousands of students, suggesting that efforts to engage new generations with books are gaining traction.

According to festival leadership, the event was fully booked throughout its duration, with book sales also rising significantly compared to previous editions. This increase indicates not only strong attendance but also active participation from visitors, many of whom purchased books on-site.

The festival has evolved beyond a traditional book fair, positioning itself as a multidisciplinary cultural platform. By incorporating elements from cinema, music, and gastronomy, it offers an immersive experience designed to attract diverse audiences. This broader approach appears to be resonating, helping the event stand out in a competitive cultural landscape.

Despite ongoing turmoil within parts of the French publishing sector, particularly involving the well-known publisher Éditions Grasset, the festival remained largely unaffected. Industry professionals did discuss recent developments, but these issues did not impact attendance or overall organization.

Some major publishing groups, including entities linked to Hachette Livre, were absent from this year’s edition. Nevertheless, the festival hosted hundreds of publishing houses and more than a thousand authors, maintaining its status as a key gathering for the literary world.

Looking ahead, organizers have indicated that a European country will be featured as the guest of honor for the 2027 edition, followed by Japan in 2028. With rising attendance and strong engagement, the Paris Book Festival continues to reinforce its position as a major event on the international cultural calendar.
