Cicchetti opens in Rabat, bringing Italian dining concept to Morocco

Rabat is preparing to host a new international dining concept with the opening of Cicchetti on April 23 and 24, 2026, inside The View Hotel Rabat. The launch marks the brand’s first entry into Morocco and reflects a broader shift in the country’s hospitality sector toward global culinary experiences. The project results from a partnership between Experienciah, Sunset Hospitality Group, and San Carlo Group, combining local expertise with established international operators .

The concept draws from Venetian culinary traditions, where small plates are shared in informal settings. Known as cicchetti, these dishes are designed for collective dining rather than individual courses. The Rabat venue adapts this format to a contemporary urban audience. Meals are structured around flexibility, allowing guests to order and share multiple dishes throughout the experience. This model aligns with evolving dining habits, where consumers favor social interaction and informal formats over traditional service structures .

Located in the Hay Riad district, the restaurant occupies a strategic position within one of the capital’s most active business and residential areas. The interior design combines wood, marble, and soft textiles to create a controlled, modern environment. The space accommodates around 90 guests and emphasizes comfort and flow. Management states that the objective is to position the venue not only as a restaurant but as a lifestyle destination, integrating atmosphere, service, and culinary identity into a single experience .

The kitchen is led by executive chef Alessandro Lanza, whose background includes experience across several European culinary centers. The menu focuses on Italian regional dishes prepared with ingredients sourced directly from Italy. Signature items include truffle-based pasta, risotto prepared in a cheese wheel, baked sea bass, and Sicilian rice specialties. The approach prioritizes product integrity and recognizable flavors while adapting presentation to contemporary dining expectations .

Executives involved in the project describe the opening as part of a longer-term strategy to expand international hospitality brands in Morocco. The country has seen increasing interest from global operators due to its tourism growth and established culture of hospitality. Rabat, in particular, is gaining attention as an alternative to traditional hubs such as Casablanca and Marrakech. The arrival of Cicchetti reflects this shift and signals confidence in the capital’s capacity to support premium dining concepts.

The development also illustrates a wider transformation in the restaurant industry. Operators are moving toward hybrid models that combine gastronomy, design, and social experience. In this context, Cicchetti positions itself as both a culinary offering and a social space. Its success will depend on its ability to adapt an international concept to local expectations while maintaining consistency with its global identity.
