Morocco weather: thunderstorms and heavy showers expected across several regions
Weather conditions are expected to remain unsettled across large parts of Morocco on Tuesday, October 6, as tropical cloud formations continue to bring thunderstorms, locally heavy showers and strong wind gusts to several regions.
According to the forecast issued by the General Directorate of Meteorology, the southern provinces will remain among the areas most exposed to unstable conditions. Tropical-origin clouds are expected to generate locally significant thunderstorms, accompanied in some areas by strong gusts during storm activity.
Rainfall expected across northern and central regions
Unstable weather will not be limited to the south. Local thunderstorms are also forecast over the High and Middle Atlas, the Rif and the Saiss, while dense cloud cover is expected to affect northern and central plains as well as the Phosphate and Oulmes plateaus.
These areas could experience periods of rain or locally stormy showers, reflecting a broader deterioration in atmospheric conditions across parts of the country.
Elsewhere, skies are expected to remain generally clear to partly cloudy, although conditions may change temporarily depending on the development of cloud formations.
Stronger winds in several areas
Wind conditions are also expected to become more noticeable in parts of the country. Moderate to fairly strong gusts are forecast locally across the Atlas, the northern and central plains and the Rif.
The combination of rainfall, thunderstorms and gusty winds could lead to temporarily difficult conditions in the most affected areas, particularly during periods of storm activity.
Temperatures set to fall in several regions
Overnight temperatures are expected to range between 8°C and 16°C in the Atlas and Rif regions. Values of between 17°C and 20°C are forecast across the eastern high plateaus and the eastern slopes of the Atlas.
Most other parts of the country are expected to record minimum temperatures between 20°C and 25°C.
A noticeable decline in temperatures is also forecast across the southern provinces, the western plains of the Atlas and the Mediterranean region, signaling a broader shift toward cooler conditions in these areas.
Maritime conditions remain generally manageable
At sea, conditions are expected to remain calm to slightly rough in the Mediterranean, the Strait of Gibraltar, north of Mehdia and south of Boujdour.
Elsewhere, the sea is forecast to become slightly rough to rough.
The combination of unsettled skies, thunderstorms, rainfall and falling temperatures underlines the importance of monitoring updated forecasts, particularly in mountainous and southern areas where weather conditions may change rapidly during the day.
