Lockheed Martin expands focus on Morocco’s defense and industrial potential
Morocco is emerging as an increasingly important market for Lockheed Martin as the US defense and aerospace company prepares to strengthen its industrial and defense engagement with the kingdom during the 2026 Marrakech Air Show.
The company is participating in the event, scheduled for October 7 to 10, as a platinum sponsor, highlighting the growing importance of the exhibition as a platform for discussions on aerospace, defense cooperation and industrial partnerships.
Ahead of the air show, Lockheed Martin is also set to organize an industry-focused event on October 6 in cooperation with Morocco’s Ministry of Industry and Trade. The meeting is expected to bring together Moroccan companies and potential suppliers interested in joining the company’s international supply network.
The initiative reflects a broader focus on industrial cooperation alongside defense equipment. Lockheed Martin plans to present opportunities related to supplier qualification, local manufacturing and participation in existing and future defense programs.
The company has maintained defense and aerospace ties with Morocco for more than five decades. According to Lockheed Martin executive Steve Sheehy, the next phase of the relationship could place greater emphasis on integrating Moroccan businesses into the company’s global supply chain.
Lockheed Martin’s presence at the Marrakech event will also showcase a range of military technologies and platforms. Its display is expected to include a full-scale F-35 fighter cockpit demonstrator and scale models of the aircraft, while US and Moroccan military aircraft will also feature at the exhibition.
The presence of a US Air Force C-130 transport aircraft is particularly relevant to discussions about tactical airlift capabilities. Aircraft in this category can support a wide range of missions, including military transport, humanitarian assistance and disaster-response operations.
The company is also expected to present several precision-strike and air-defense technologies, including the Sniper targeting pod, Javelin missile and HIMARS launcher. Models of the PAC-3 MSE interceptor and the Extended Range Guided Multiple Launch Rocket System will further illustrate the range of capabilities showcased at the event.
Beyond individual platforms, Lockheed Martin is expected to use the exhibition to discuss how aircraft, sensors and command-and-control systems can operate as interconnected capabilities. Such integration is becoming increasingly important as armed forces seek to improve situational awareness, precision engagement and air and missile defense.
The company's expanded industrial outreach also points to a potential shift toward deeper supply-chain cooperation. For Morocco, greater involvement by domestic companies in international aerospace and defense manufacturing could create opportunities for industrial development, supplier qualification and technology-related partnerships.
The Marrakech Air Show therefore provides a platform not only for displaying military equipment but also for exploring the longer-term industrial dimension of Morocco-US defense cooperation, with discussions likely to focus on manufacturing, supply chains and the development of local aerospace capabilities.
