Barcelona targets September reopening of Spotify Camp Nou for Valencia clash
FC Barcelona is accelerating efforts to reopen the Spotify Camp Nou in time for their La Liga match against Valencia, scheduled for the weekend of September 13-14. The club remains committed to "Plan A," which would allow a partial reopening, accommodating approximately 27,000 fans.
Progress on stadium renovations
Barcelona has secured the final works certificate for the main stand (Tribuna) and the South Goal (Gol Sur). The document, approved by surveyors, project managers, and construction company Limak, marks significant progress in the stadium's renovation. On Monday, club executives held discussions with representatives of the Barcelona City Council to finalize details.
Council members are set to inspect the stadium on Tuesday to assess compliance with requirements for the first occupancy license, essential for admitting fans. UEFA regulations also play a role, as the lateral stand must be open for proper television coverage during European competitions. Decisions on these matters are expected in the coming days.
European competition considerations
Barcelona faces a looming deadline to inform UEFA about their designated home ground for Champions League matches. The group-stage draw, scheduled for August 28, requires the club to confirm the venue they will use until at least mid-February. If the Spotify Camp Nou is not ready, Barcelona may split their games between two stadiums: La Liga fixtures at the Camp Nou and Champions League matches at the Estadi Lluis Companys in Montjuic.
An agreement is already in place to use Montjuic until February, with no concerts planned there until May. However, municipal sources emphasize that Montjuic remains "Plan B," with the club focused on completing the necessary steps for a return to their historic home.
A pivotal phase ahead
The reopening of the Spotify Camp Nou would be a major milestone for Barcelona, signaling progress in the broader redevelopment of the stadium. In this initial phase, only the main stand and the South Goal will be accessible to fans. The coming days will determine whether Barcelona can meet their ambitious timeline, with both local authorities and UEFA approvals playing critical roles.
