Bangladesh has achieved a remarkable milestone by defeating the West Indies by 101 runs in the second Test match at Sabina Park, Kingston. This victory not only leveled the series but also marked Bangladesh's first Test win in the Caribbean since 2009.

The standout performer was Taijul Islam, who claimed five wickets for the 15th time in his Test career. His 5-50 spell played a pivotal role in dismantling the West Indies' batting lineup during the final session on the fourth day. Bangladesh, set a target of 287 runs, bowled out the home team for 185 in just 50 overs.

Jaker Ali’s impactful performance earlier in the match was instrumental in setting up the win. Ali scored a career-best 91 runs off 106 balls, including eight fours and five sixes. His aggressive approach shifted the momentum, helping Bangladesh post 268 runs in their second innings. This left the West Indies chasing a daunting target, which proved too challenging on a deteriorating pitch.

Fast bowler Nahid Rana, who had secured his maiden five-wicket haul in the first innings, claimed the final wicket by clean-bowling Shamar Joseph. This capped off a strong bowling performance by the visitors, supported by Taskin Ahmed and Hasan Mahmud, who took two wickets each. Taskin emerged as the series' leading wicket-taker with 11 dismissals.

West Indies captain Kraigg Brathwaite and Kavem Hodge provided some resistance with scores of 43 and 55, respectively. However, their efforts were insufficient as wickets fell at regular intervals. Brathwaite acknowledged the team’s shortcomings, stating, “We wanted to be positive and I thought we started well, but obviously we couldn’t carry it through to the end of the day.”

This victory was particularly significant for Bangladesh as it avenged their heavy 201-run defeat in the first Test at Antigua. The triumph also highlighted the team’s improved performance in overseas conditions, a challenge they have historically struggled with. Player of the match Taijul Islam expressed his satisfaction, saying, “It’s a great feeling to win a Test match abroad which we don’t often do, and all the boys really put in a tremendous effort.”

Bangladesh’s win at Sabina Park breaks a long drought of Test victories in the Caribbean. Their last success was a 2-0 series sweep over a weakened West Indies side in 2009. This latest accomplishment stands as a testament to the team's growth and resilience in the longer format of the game.

Alzarri Joseph and Kemar Roach were the pick of the bowlers for the West Indies, each taking three wickets in Bangladesh’s second innings. Despite their efforts, the highest successful run chase at Sabina Park remains the 212 achieved by the West Indies against Sri Lanka in 2003.

This series has showcased Bangladesh's potential to compete at the highest level, offering hope for more consistent performances on foreign soil in the future.
