Arab League Organizes International Conference to Combat Islamophobia
The Arab League Secretariat has announced the organization of an International Conference to Combat Islamophobia, scheduled to take place on July 8th at its headquarters in Cairo. This announcement was made on the occasion of the annual International Day to Combat Islamophobia, observed on March 15th.
The conference will be held in collaboration with the Islamic World Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (ISESCO) under the theme "Islamophobia: Concept and Practice in the Current Global Context." The event aims to address the concerning rise in hate speech and discrimination against followers of Islam, a problem exacerbated by global crises and conflicts that deepen cultural and religious divisions worldwide.
The purpose of the conference is to highlight the growing issue of Islamophobia, explore ways to combat it, and promote values of coexistence and mutual respect among religious communities. According to the Arab League, combating Islamophobia requires comprehensive strategies that promote tolerance, cultural, and religious diversity. These strategies include educational and media awareness campaigns emphasizing dialogue and non-discrimination, supporting interfaith initiatives, and strengthening connections between diverse communities. The overall goal is to build an inclusive and just society that celebrates religious and cultural diversity as a force for progress, not an obstacle to growth, aiming for a world of peace and understanding.
In this context, Haifa Abu Ghazala, Assistant Secretary-General for Social Affairs, expressed the Arab League's commitment to making every effort to combat all forms of hate and discrimination. She emphasized that Islam promotes peace, justice, and tolerance and stressed the importance of international cooperation to correct stereotypes surrounding the religion. Education and awareness are seen as essential tools in challenging the negative stereotypes that continue to affect Islam and Muslims, requiring joint efforts to spread values of peace and openness.
The Arab League has called on international parties to unite in their efforts to address all forms of religious hate, violations of beliefs, and any actions that distort the image of religions or discriminate against people based on their religion or beliefs. There is also an emphasis on intensifying efforts to promote global dialogue on fostering a culture of tolerance and peace at all levels, respecting religious diversity, and building bridges of understanding and peaceful coexistence. The ultimate goal is to work together to break free from cycles of hatred and conflict toward a world that embraces diversity and mutual respect.
The Arab League reaffirmed its commitment to contributing to the promotion of noble human values that encourage tolerance, mutual respect, and understanding among people, with the aim of creating a world free of hate and discrimination, marked by peace, love, and brotherhood.
