Abdellah Ouazane scores first Ajax goal in Eredivisie breakthrough
Moroccan teenager Abdellah Ouazane has taken another significant step in his rapid rise at Ajax Amsterdam, scoring his first competitive goal for the senior side during his first official start in the Eredivisie.
The 17-year-old midfielder found the net against Heerenveen on Sunday as Ajax were held to a 2-2 draw on the second matchday of the Dutch championship.
A spectacular first senior goal
Given his first league start, Ouazane quickly showed why he is regarded as one of Morocco’s most promising young footballers.
After testing the Heerenveen defence several times, the teenager produced a moment of individual quality in the 33rd minute. From outside the penalty area, he struck a curling effort that flew into the top corner, leaving the goalkeeper with little chance.
The goal marked Ouazane’s first official strike for Ajax’s senior team and provided an early highlight in what could become an important breakthrough season.
A promising start to the campaign
The goal against Heerenveen was not the midfielder’s first contribution since the beginning of the season.
Ouazane had already scored during Ajax’s pre-season victory over Burnley, while he also provided an assist in the club’s European qualifying campaign against FK Vojvodina Novi Sad.
Those performances have helped strengthen his position within Ajax’s first-team plans despite his young age.
A versatile Moroccan prospect
Ouazane’s appeal extends beyond his ability to score. The teenager can operate in several midfield roles, including as a box-to-box player, an attacking midfielder or in a more defensive position.
His technical qualities and versatility have already attracted attention beyond the Netherlands, with several major European clubs reportedly monitoring his development.
Real Madrid have previously been linked with the player. A deal was reportedly close at the end of the 2024-2025 season, but the proposed transfer ultimately collapsed following the medical examination.
Ajax opportunity could accelerate his development
For Ouazane, establishing himself in Ajax’s senior squad represents an important stage in his development. The Amsterdam club has a long tradition of promoting young talent, providing an ideal environment for a player still at the beginning of his professional career.
His first Eredivisie goal now adds another milestone to a trajectory that has already generated considerable interest in Morocco and across European football.
