Cristiano Ronaldo hints at final season as a professional footballer

Portuguese football star Cristiano Ronaldo has indicated that the 2026–2027 season could be the final chapter of his professional playing career, bringing him closer to the end of a journey that has lasted around a quarter of a century.

At 41, Ronaldo said in an interview with Vogue that he is likely approaching retirement and wants to conclude his career by leaving behind an exceptional legacy. His comments suggest that the veteran forward is increasingly preparing for life beyond competitive football.

Ronaldo also revealed that he has already considered his future after retirement. The Portugal captain said he has several business activities and personal projects that could occupy his time once he stops playing.

Reflecting on his long career, Ronaldo acknowledged the sacrifices required to remain at the highest level for so many years. He also expressed a desire to spend more time enjoying his achievements with his family.

The upcoming campaign is expected to be Ronaldo's fifth season with Saudi club Al Nassr. His career has previously taken him through Sporting CP, Manchester United, Real Madrid and Juventus, where he established himself as one of the most influential players of his generation.

Over the years, Ronaldo has collected major domestic and international honours and set numerous scoring records. His longevity at the highest level has also made his eventual retirement one of the most anticipated moments in modern football.
