Morocco leads Africa's renewable energy transition, says Mohamed Ghiath
Mohamed Ghiath, vice-president of the House of Representatives and a senior member of the National Rally of Independents, reaffirmed Morocco's strong commitment to supporting Africa’s energy transition and green investments. He made these remarks during an African parliamentary meeting held in Marrakech, organized by the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), focusing on green investment and the shift to clean energy.
Ghiath highlighted Morocco’s pivotal role as a leader in renewable energy across the Middle East and North Africa. He emphasized key national projects, including the Noor solar complex—Africa’s largest solar energy installation—and the country’s extensive network of wind farms.
Addressing Africa’s dual challenge of economic growth and climate urgency, Ghiath underscored the strategic necessity of climate financing and investment in clean energy to achieve sustainable development and environmental preservation goals.
He credited Morocco’s progress to the visionary leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, which has driven the nation’s ambitious transition to renewable energy. Citing flagship projects like the Noor complex in Ouarzazate and the expansive wind energy initiatives, Ghiath noted Morocco’s steadfast commitment to building a sustainable energy future.
Ghiath also stressed the importance of green industrial zones in fostering eco-friendly and globally competitive industries. He called for enhanced African parliamentary cooperation to exchange expertise and establish legislative frameworks conducive to green investment.
