Anthony Hopkins unveils debut classical album inspired by a lifetime of composition

Academy Award-winning actor Anthony Hopkins is preparing to introduce a new chapter in his creative career with the release of his debut classical music album, Life Is A Dream, marking his first recording project with Decca Classics.

The 88-year-old Welsh actor, celebrated for decades of acclaimed performances on screen, will present a collection of original compositions written at different stages of his life. The works will be performed by the Philharmonia Orchestra under the direction of internationally renowned conductor Gustavo Dudamel.

A lifelong passion finally reaches the recording studio

Although Hopkins is best known for his cinematic achievements, he has long described music as his earliest artistic calling.

According to the artist, many of the compositions featured on Life Is A Dream have accompanied him for decades, evolving over time before reaching their final orchestral form.

Decca Classics described the album as a deeply personal work, highlighting the emotional depth and storytelling qualities that have also defined Hopkins' distinguished acting career.

Collaboration with Gustavo Dudamel brings the music to life

The project brings together Hopkins' compositions and the interpretation of the Philharmonia Orchestra, led by Venezuelan conductor Gustavo Dudamel.

Hopkins praised Dudamel's contribution, saying the conductor infused each piece with emotional depth while creating rich musical landscapes designed to spark the imagination of listeners.

The collaboration reflects the meeting of two internationally recognized artists from different creative backgrounds, united by a shared commitment to expressive orchestral music.

New single recalls childhood memories in Wales

Ahead of the album's release next month, listeners have already been given a preview through the composition 1947: Suite for Solo Piano & Orchestra – II. Bracken Road.

The piece draws inspiration from Hopkins' childhood in Margam, southern Wales, transforming personal memories into an orchestral narrative that reflects the intimate character of the album.

A composer alongside an acclaimed actor

The upcoming release is not Hopkins' first venture into composition. Over the years, he has written music for various projects, including a waltz recorded by violinist André Rieu in 2011.

More recently, his compositions were featured during the Life Is A Dream gala concert held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, in early 2025.

With the launch of his first full-length classical album, Hopkins adds another dimension to a career that has already earned him international recognition in film, demonstrating a creative journey that extends well beyond the world of cinema.
