Anthony Hopkins Embarks on a Classical Music Journey with Debut Symphony Album
After making a mark in cinema, Anthony Hopkins is opening a new chapter in his artistic career. At 88 years old, the British actor, who has won two Oscars, is set to unveil his very first classical music album, Life Is A Dream, born from a long-standing passion for composition. Scheduled for release next month under the prestigious label Decca Classics, this project reveals an unknown facet of the Welsh actor.
The album brings together several works composed by Anthony Hopkins at different stages of his life. To bring them to life, the Philharmonia Orchestra performs them under the direction of Venezuelan conductor Gustavo Dudamel, a prominent figure in the international classical music scene.
This collaboration illustrates the desire to transform personal compositions into a large-scale orchestral work. According to Decca Classics, Anthony Hopkins's music is distinguished by a strong narrative and emotional dimension, in continuity with the sensitivity that has marked his cinematic journey.
The actor, globally known for his roles in The Silence of the Lambs, The Remains of the Day, and The Father, explains that music has played a central role in his life since a young age. He claims to have been composing for decades and regularly returns to certain scores he has patiently developed over the years.
Anthony Hopkins also emphasizes the decisive contribution of Gustavo Dudamel in realizing the project. He praises the conductor's ability to give a particular depth to each of his works, offering listeners a musical experience that he hopes is intimate and evocative.
However, this debut album is not a true first in the musician's universe. In 2011, he had already signed a waltz performed by Dutch violinist André Rieu. More recently, several of his compositions were presented during the concert Life Is A Dream, held in Riyadh in January 2025.
To introduce his musical universe, Anthony Hopkins has already revealed a first excerpt from the album, 1947: Suite for Solo Piano & Orchestra : II. Bracken Road. This composition draws its inspiration from the artist's childhood memories in Margam, in southern Wales, translating profoundly personal emotions into music.
With Life Is A Dream, Anthony Hopkins demonstrates that his artistic journey extends far beyond the realm of cinema. This new musical adventure showcases an ever-vibrant creativity and a constant desire to explore new modes of expression, even after more than six decades in his career.
