Morocco achieves 24.7 million beneficiaries under universal health coverage

The number of beneficiaries of Morocco's mandatory health insurance (AMO) has reached 24.7 million, encompassing all available coverage schemes. This announcement was made by Mustapha Baitas, Minister Delegate in charge of Relations with Parliament and Government Spokesperson, following a government council meeting. Baitas emphasized that no segment of the population has been excluded from this comprehensive social protection system.

Expanding inclusive health coverage

The minister highlighted that the figure includes beneficiaries across various schemes, such as "AMO Tadamoun," introduced as a replacement for the former Ramed program for vulnerable populations, self-employed workers (TNS), and the "AMO Chamil" program. Of the total beneficiaries, 11.1 million people are covered under AMO Tadamoun.

Baitas firmly rejected claims of exclusion, assuring that the government has implemented the necessary decrees and procedures to simplify enrollment for all social categories, ensuring equitable access to health coverage.

Significant financial commitment to social reform

As part of this reform's implementation, a budget of 29 billion dirhams has been allocated, in alignment with the royal vision prioritizing social justice and inclusion. Additionally, the budget for this initiative will increase by 4 billion dirhams in 2025, bringing the total to 25 billion dirhams. This financial boost reflects the government's commitment to advancing this transformative social project, a cornerstone of Morocco's protective social policy.

Tangible impacts on access to healthcare

The AMO Tadamoun program has demonstrated a substantial impact on citizens' lives. Over 527 million medical procedures have been covered, along with 43,000 reimbursement certificates for medication costs, amounting to a total of 618 million dirhams. Furthermore, 523,000 medical expense reimbursement files were processed, resulting in 7.8 billion dirhams in reimbursements, significantly reducing the financial burden on Moroccan households.

Strengthening healthcare infrastructure

To support these efforts, the government has increased the budget for the Ministry of Health and Social Protection. This aims to enhance hospital infrastructure and expand the network of health centers across the Kingdom, thereby improving the quality and accessibility of healthcare services.

This expansion of health insurance coverage is part of a broader strategy to consolidate social gains and ensure the universal right to healthcare for all citizens.
