Marrakech premieres film festival celebrating Moroccan heritage and memory

Morocco's historic city of Marrakech is set to inaugurate its first Cinema and History Festival from January 23-27, offering a unique exploration of national identity and historical narrative through film. The festival, organized by the Association of Cinema and History, will center on the theme "Cinema and Memory," examining Morocco's resistance history and its cinematic representation in shaping national consciousness.

The event's program features notable screenings including Abdelhai Laraki's "55 Fez Summer" and Rabii El Jawhari's "Sika," alongside educational short films designed for students. Festival participants will have access to comprehensive workshops covering photography, directing, acting, and screenwriting fundamentals.

A national symposium titled "Cinema and Memory: The Moroccan Experience, Realities, and Challenges" will serve as an intellectual cornerstone of the festival. The program also includes an engaging discussion with acclaimed Moroccan actor Hicham Bahloul on "Acting and Memory" and a special tribute to distinguished filmmaker Saad Chraibi.

This pioneering festival aims to create a dynamic space for celebrating Morocco's historical legacy while exploring its cultural heritage through cinematic expression.
