Honda Issues Recall for 239,000 Vehicles in Canada Due to Steering Defect

Honda Issues Recall for 239,000 Vehicles in Canada Due to Steering Defect

Honda Canada has announced a significant recall affecting approximately 239,000 vehicles due to concerns over a defective component in the steering system that could potentially lead to crashes. This voluntary recall encompasses select 2022-2025 models of both Acura and Honda vehicles.

The defect is linked to an improperly manufactured steering gearbox worm wheel, which is critical for steering functionality. According to Honda, exposure to heat and moisture may cause this part to swell, thereby diminishing the grease thickness between the gear and its connecting bar. The advisory warns that excessive friction resulting from this issue could lead to increased steering effort or a “sticky” steering experience, heightening the risk of accidents.

In addition to the Canadian recall, a similar action has been taken in the United States, where around 1.7 million vehicles are affected by the same issue. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) had previously launched an investigation after receiving numerous complaints from drivers about steering difficulties.

Affected vehicle owners will be contacted by mail and are encouraged to bring their cars to authorized Honda or Acura dealerships for free repairs. The remedy involves replacing the faulty part and applying additional grease as necessary.

The list of affected models includes:

  • 2022-2025 Honda Civic Sedan

  • 2022-2025 Honda Civic Hatchback

  • 2025 Honda Civic Hybrid Sedan

  • 2025 Honda Civic Hybrid Hatchback

  • 2023-2025 Honda Civic Type R

  • 2023-2025 Honda CR-V

  • 2023-2025 Honda CR-V Hybrid

  • 2023-2025 Honda HR-V

  • 2023-2025 Acura Integra

  • 2024-2025 Acura Integra Type S

Honda encourages vehicle owners who are uncertain about whether their vehicle is impacted by the recall to check their Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) on Honda's official website. As safety remains a priority, timely action is advised for those with affected models to ensure proper functionality and safety on the road.
