ONMT Shines at ITB China, Captivating the Lucrative Chinese Travel Market

In the bustling city of Shanghai, the Moroccan National Tourist Office (ONMT) made a remarkable impression at the largest professional trade show exclusive to the Chinese travel market, ITB China, held from May 27 to 29. For the first time, ONMT, accompanied by a robust delegation of Moroccan operators, participated in this prestigious event, representing Morocco with elegance and determination, aiming to boost future arrivals of Chinese tourists.

ITB China 2024 brought together more than 800 exhibitors from over 80 countries. This year's event was themed "Prospering in Transformation, Reaching New Heights Together," reflecting the importance of adaptability and innovation in the travel industry, as well as the immense untapped potential of the Chinese tourism market.

ONMT and the accompanying tourism operators quickly found their stride at the trade show, where the Office, along with a dozen other countries, made its debut appearance. During these three days, Morocco unleashed an all-encompassing charm offensive.

ONMT seized the opportunity to renew partnerships with its major partners, notably the Chinese travel giant CTrip, and forged new alliances with two of the largest tour operators in the Guangzhou & Shenzhen region: JZL and NiceTour.

Several other partnerships are in the pipeline with major travel companies in the Beijing region, including CYTS, CTG, and HCG.

Supported by ONMT, Moroccan operators, travel agents, and hoteliers initiated contacts with their Chinese counterparts, laying the groundwork for fruitful commercial cooperation.

The Chinese market is experiencing rapid growth and offers exceptional development prospects. It is crucial for ONMT to approach the largest Chinese travel influencers to support its "Light In Action" strategy, aimed at revitalizing the Moroccan tourism sector. The ultimate goal is to welcome around 500,000 Chinese tourists annually, an enticing prospect as each Chinese tourist spends nearly twice as much during their stay compared to an American tourist.

Promotional campaigns, marketing efforts, and educational tours are also on ONMT's agenda to reinforce the enthusiasm of Chinese tourists for Morocco.

With a population of 1.4 billion, of which 150 million travel worldwide annually, China, the world's largest source of tourists, represents a market with immense potential for Moroccan tourism and is therefore a privileged target market in ONMT's "Light In Action" strategy.
