Morocco relocates over 143,000 residents to avert flood risks
Morocco's Interior Ministry announced that evacuations in flood-prone areas are ongoing as of Thursday, February 5, 2026. The phased operations aim to mitigate risks and safeguard residents from potential damage caused by adverse weather conditions. Authorities have deployed extensive logistical resources to facilitate the safe relocation of affected individuals.
The preventive measures have already resulted in the evacuation of 143,164 people across several provinces, prioritizing public safety and the preservation of lives.
Larache Province accounted for the largest share of evacuees, with 110,941 people relocated. Kénitra Province followed with 16,914 individuals, Sidi Kacem Province reported 11,696 evacuations, and Sidi Slimane Province recorded 3,613 relocations. Local authorities remain fully engaged to monitor and address the ongoing impacts of weather fluctuations, ensuring the safety and well-being of all residents in vulnerable regions.
