Exclusive Walaw: Jeremy Lin Calls for Strengthening Digital Sovereignty
The 16th edition of the MEDays International Forum opened today, November 27, 2024, in Tangier. Held under the High Patronage of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, this major event will run until November 30, under the theme "Sovereignties and Resilience: Toward a New Global Balance." Recognized as a key event on global strategic issues, the forum brings together policymakers, business leaders, international experts, and influential thinkers.
With over 250 renowned speakers, this year’s forum focuses on critical issues such as energy sovereignty, data security, and resilience strategies in the face of global upheavals.
Jeremy Lin: "Digital Sovereignty, A Priority for All Countries"
Among the prominent figures present, Mr. Jeremy Lin, Executive Vice President of Huawei Northern Africa, shared a significant reflection on sovereignty in the digital realm. In an exclusive statement to Walaw, he expressed his enthusiasm for the event: "I am very happy to participate in this forum. It is a very interesting space where participants from different sectors exchange diverse and inspiring opinions."
He also emphasized the importance of digital sovereignty, particularly in data management: "Sovereignty is a key concept, especially in the digital economy. We encourage governments to build local data centers to store their data sovereignly. These data are like gold mines; they contain immense value and must be protected locally."
According to Mr. Lin, this awareness is spreading globally: "Whether countries are large or small, it is crucial that they pay attention to their digital sovereignty. This is a strategic issue for the future."
A Forum to Build the Future
The first day of MEDays highlighted rich and varied discussions on topics ranging from energy sovereignty to digital transformation. Speakers unanimously called for strengthened international cooperation to address contemporary challenges.
This forum, which brings together participants from over 100 countries, continues to position itself as an essential space for shaping a resilient and balanced future. The discussions scheduled in the coming days promise to offer concrete solutions for tackling global challenges.
