Morocco showcases digital creativity at FAN 2025 festival
FAN 2025, the Digital Arts Khouribga Festival, has transformed Morocco into a hub of artistic and technological innovation. Taking place across Benguerir and Khouribga, the festival unites artists, technologists, and visionaries to explore the intersection of creativity and digital transformation. Organized by CANCoop and Mohammed VI Polytechnic University (UM6P) through the school 1337, the event also collaborates with the Institute for Advanced Studies (IAS) and Open Mind Art & Culture (OMAC).
As part of the Novembre Numérique global celebration, FAN 2025 is supported by EPSON and the French Institute of Morocco. After a dynamic start earlier this week in Benguerir, the festival has now moved to Khouribga, where it continues until Sunday. The event offers a multidisciplinary program of exhibitions, workshops, performances, and conferences that highlight the evolving relationship between humans and machines.
Artistic innovation and immersive experiences
The festival opened with a workshop by Youssef Lyoussfi, “From Lerp to Bézier Curves,” introducing participants to the mathematical foundations of digital animations and designs. French artist Yann Minh followed, showcasing augmented reality animations through the EyeJack app, where static artworks came to life on viewers’ smartphones. Minh’s interactive creations blur the boundaries between reality and imagination, engaging audiences in a playful and thought-provoking dialogue.
Other highlights include El Mehdi Alislami’s VR-based exploration of Ibn Battuta’s travels in “Milestones of Ibnu Battuta” and the AI-driven installation “Echoes of Intelligence,” which allows audiences to interact with a responsive digital system. “Time is Everything,” a video art piece, reflects on the fleeting nature of existence, drawing visitors into a meditative experience.
A global platform for digital art
FAN 2025 features contributions from artists and researchers hailing from Morocco, France, Japan, Tunisia, Iceland, and Spain. Some of these creators developed their works through in-situ artist residencies, underscoring the festival’s ambition to position Morocco as a global hub for digital and artistic experimentation.
The opening spectacle, “AI DREAME,” hosted in Benguerir, united immersive visuals and augmented reality, crafted by French artist MOULLA. Monumental video mappings lit up key festival locations, including the UM6P campus in Benguerir and the 1337 Campus in Khouribga, with works like “Architecture Lumière” by Zineb Sekkat and “Pulse of the Game” by El Mehdi Alislami.
Beyond exhibitions, the festival prioritizes intellectual engagement, hosting conferences, masterclasses, and roundtable discussions. Researchers, engineers, and artists delve into the philosophical, aesthetic, and social dimensions of creative technologies, sparking debate and exchange among attendees.
