Morocco Aerospace Industry Gains New Safran Engine Oil Systems Operation

Morocco’s aerospace manufacturing ecosystem is moving into increasingly specialized territory as French aerospace group Safran establishes a new industrial entity dedicated to aircraft engine oil systems in Nouaceur.

Named Systems Oil Safran Maroc, the newly created company will focus on the design, manufacturing, production and commercialization of oil systems and related equipment for aircraft engines. The move adds another highly technical activity to Safran’s expanding industrial footprint in Morocco.

A new Safran entity in Nouaceur

Systems Oil Safran Maroc was established with share capital of 108 million Moroccan dirhams. The company was incorporated through an act dated July 1, 2026, and registered with the Casablanca commercial registry on August 31 under registration number 744647.

Its headquarters are located at Lot 58 in the Nouaceur free zone, within the Midparc aerospace industrial hub.

The entire share capital is owned by Safran Aero Boosters, the Belgian subsidiary of the French group headquartered in Liège.

The Moroccan company is expected to handle activities ranging from engineering and manufacturing to the sale of aircraft-engine oil systems, alongside the import and export operations associated with these products.

A focus on critical engine components

The planned industrial activity could cover several categories of equipment, including lubrication assemblies, oil tanks, individual components and associated systems.

Although less visible than an aircraft’s major structural components, oil-management systems perform essential functions inside an aircraft engine. They contribute to the storage, circulation and management of oil required for engine operation.

The decision to establish a dedicated Moroccan entity therefore points toward a segment where precision manufacturing, industrial quality and traceability are particularly important.

Safran has not yet disclosed which engine programs will be supplied by the future Moroccan operation. The group has also not identified the aircraft manufacturers or engine companies that could ultimately receive products from the site.

Investment and production details remain open

Several operational details have yet to be announced.

Safran has not specified the size of the future facility, its expected production capacity, the precise timetable for industrial operations or the number of jobs associated with the new activity.

The 108 million dirham figure represents the new company's share capital and should not automatically be interpreted as the total cost of the industrial project. The value of production equipment and the overall investment required to establish the facility have not been disclosed.

The distinction is significant as Morocco continues to attract aerospace projects involving substantial industrial infrastructure and specialized production capabilities.

Nouaceur becomes a major Safran investment platform

The Systems Oil Safran Maroc project comes alongside a much broader expansion of Safran’s activities in Morocco.

Since October 2025, the group has announced three major projects in Nouaceur covering engine maintenance, LEAP engine assembly, landing gear and hydraulic equipment.

One of the projects involves the construction of a LEAP engine maintenance center on approximately 25,000 square meters. The announced investment is close to €120 million, with operations scheduled to begin in 2027. The facility is expected to handle around 150 engines annually and could support approximately 600 jobs by 2030.

Safran is also preparing a dedicated facility for the assembly of LEAP-1A engines. Covering roughly 13,000 square meters, the project represents an announced investment of about €200 million. Once fully operational, the plant is expected to assemble up to 350 engines per year, with startup planned for the end of 2027.

The Moroccan facility would become Safran’s second LEAP engine assembly location of this type, following the group’s operation in Villaroche, France.

A third project concerns an approximately 26,000-square-meter industrial plant focused on landing gear and hydraulic equipment. Safran has announced an investment exceeding €280 million, with commissioning planned for 2029 and around 500 positions expected at full development.

Together, those three projects represent more than €600 million in announced investment and roughly 1,400 potential jobs, before taking into account the still-undisclosed requirements of the new oil-systems business.

From components to complex aerospace systems

Safran already employs more than 5,500 people in Morocco across around ten sites, with activities spanning engine maintenance, aircraft wiring, nacelles and engine-related operations, electronics, fuel systems and engineering.

The addition of engine oil systems broadens that industrial portfolio further.

For Morocco, the significance of the development lies not only in the number of facilities or jobs involved, but also in the increasing technical complexity of the activities being established locally.

The country’s aerospace sector has progressively developed beyond conventional component manufacturing toward engineering-intensive operations and systems linked directly to aircraft propulsion and other critical functions.

Nouaceur is emerging as a central location in that transformation, with Safran building a wider industrial network around manufacturing, maintenance and engine-related technologies.

Systems Oil Safran Maroc is the latest addition to that network. While the company’s production timetable, workforce requirements and total industrial investment remain to be detailed, its creation marks another step in the expansion of Morocco’s role within the global aerospace supply chain.
