Venezuela Appoints Alex Saab as New Industry Minister Amid Political Turmoil

In a significant cabinet reshuffle, Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro has appointed Alex Saab, a Colombian businessman and close associate, as the new Minister of Industry and National Production. This announcement was made on Friday, following Saab's release from U.S. custody in a high-profile prisoner exchange last year.

Saab, who previously faced serious money laundering charges in the United States, replaces Pedro Tellechea, who resigned citing health issues that require immediate attention. Tellechea's departure marks yet another change in Maduro's cabinet, which has seen multiple adjustments since the contentious presidential election in July, a contest that the opposition claims Maduro lost despite his assertions of victory.
