UK anti-Islam activist briefly detained under counter-terrorism laws at Heathrow
British anti-Islam activist Tommy Robinson was briefly detained at Heathrow Airport on Saturday under counter-terrorism legislation, according to statements he made on social media and confirmation from police sources.
The activist, whose real name is Stephen Yaxley-Lennon, said he was held for around three hours under the UK’s Counter-Terrorism and Border Security Act and that his phone was confiscated during the incident. He also claimed he had recently been active online commenting on unrest and violence in Northern Ireland.
Police have not officially named the individual involved, but confirmed that a man in his 40s was stopped at Heathrow after arriving in the country from abroad. Authorities stated that the detention was carried out under existing legal powers related to national security.
