Turkish foreign minister discusses regional developments with Qatari and Azerbaijani counterparts
Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan held separate phone conversations on Friday with senior diplomats from Qatar and Azerbaijan to discuss evolving developments in the region and growing security concerns.
According to diplomatic sources in Türkiye, Fidan spoke with Qatar’s Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani and Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov. The discussions focused on the latest geopolitical tensions in the Middle East and their potential implications for regional stability.
During the calls, the ministers reaffirmed their solidarity with Türkiye following recent security incidents affecting the country. Officials highlighted the importance of diplomatic coordination and continued dialogue among regional partners.
Earlier the same day, Türkiye’s defense authorities reported that a ballistic munition launched from Iran briefly entered Turkish airspace before being intercepted by air and missile defense systems deployed in the Eastern Mediterranean as part of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization defensive network.
The incident occurred amid heightened tensions in the region following a joint military operation conducted by Israel and the United States against Iranian targets in late February. The strike triggered a wave of retaliatory drone and missile attacks launched by Tehran toward several countries across the Middle East.
Analysts say the rapid escalation has raised concerns about wider regional instability, prompting increased diplomatic contacts between governments seeking to prevent further confrontation and maintain channels for dialogue.
