Three killed in chemical Plant Explosion in Bashkiria

Sterlitamak, Bashkiria, October 18, 2025 — Three people have died and five others were injured in an explosion at a chemical plant in Bashkiria, located in the Ural region of Russia, local authorities reported on Saturday. The cause of the blast has not yet been determined.

Governor Rady Khabirov stated on Telegram: “A rather violent explosion destroyed one of the buildings. Unfortunately, three people lost their lives, all women.”

Five individuals were hospitalized, including two in serious condition, following the incident, which occurred on Friday evening. Experts are currently investigating whether the explosion was accidental or potentially caused by sabotage.

The explosion took place at the Avangard plant in Sterlitamak, a company that produces chemical components. Governor Khabirov noted that the plant handles explosive substances and performs an important public mission in the context of the war in Ukraine, which began in 2022.

According to Russian media, the Avangard plant is part of the state-owned Rostec group and contributes to the production of weapons and ammunition, as well as the disposal of military equipment.
