Spain sees a 625% surge in cereal imports from Morocco
Cereal imports from Morocco to Spain have skyrocketed by 625%, according to data from the Spanish Ministry of Economy and Trade. This dramatic increase has heightened competition in the domestic market, compelling Spanish farmers to lower their prices, as noted by Okdario.
Official figures reveal that the surge in imports from Morocco is not only financial but also substantial in terms of volume. Spain imported a total of 1.87 million kilograms of cereals in 2024, compared to just 240,000 kilograms the previous year—a staggering 680% increase in a single year. However, this sharp growth has not been matched by a proportional rise in selling prices, making Moroccan cereal imports more affordable but putting pressure on Spanish producers.
