Severe Cold Snap in Morocco: Provinces Under Orange Alert

Morocco's General Directorate of Meteorology (DGM) has issued an orange-level weather alert as the country braces for an unprecedented cold wave expected to grip multiple provinces from Tuesday to Friday. The weather system threatens to bring freezing conditions across various regions, with temperatures dropping well below zero in several areas.

The most severe impact will be felt in provinces including Ifrane, Boulemane, Sefrou, and Al Haouz, where temperatures are forecast to plummet between -8°C and -2°C. These regions will struggle to warm up even during daylight hours, with maximum temperatures barely reaching between 0°C and 6°C.

A second tier of affected areas, including Jerada, Taourirt, and Guercif, will experience slightly milder but still challenging conditions, with minimum temperatures ranging from -4°C to 1°C and daytime highs between 3°C and 9°C.

The cold spell's reach extends to major urban areas as well. Cities such as Casablanca, Marrakech, and Oujda-Angad will see temperatures hover between -1°C and 4°C, marking a significant deviation from typical regional weather patterns.

This severe weather event coincides with an upper-level atmospheric disturbance bringing a combination of rain and snow, particularly affecting mountainous regions. The DGM has emphasized the need for heightened vigilance, especially in areas most vulnerable to extreme cold conditions.

The current situation represents part of a broader pattern of severe weather events in Morocco, characterized by a persistent high-pressure system affecting much of the nation. The meteorological authority continues to monitor the situation closely, issuing regular updates and maintaining its orange-level alert status across the affected regions.

Residents in the impacted areas are urged to take necessary precautions and stay informed about changing weather conditions as this unusual cold snap continues to affect the region.
