Sale of bhv building officially completed, galerias lafayette confirms
The Galeries Lafayette group has announced the completion of the sale of the building that houses the iconic BHV department store, located on Rue de Rivoli in central Paris. The transaction marks a significant step in the group’s real estate strategy, although the identity of the buyer was not disclosed in the official statement.
According to sources familiar with the matter, the property has been acquired by Brookfield Asset Management, a major North American investment firm specializing in global real estate and infrastructure assets. The agreement follows an exclusivity period granted late last year, which has now resulted in the finalization of the deal.
Despite the change in ownership of the building, the commercial operations of BHV will remain unaffected. The department store will continue to be operated by SGM Group, co-founded by Frédéric Merlin, which acquired the retail business of BHV two years ago. Galeries Lafayette confirmed that the operator intends to pursue the development and long-term growth of the historic store.
This separation between property ownership and retail operations reflects a broader trend in the retail sector, where major groups seek to optimize assets while ensuring continuity for flagship stores in strategic locations.
