Regional train hits fallen tree during storm ingrid, injuring several passengers
A regional train traveling between Brest and Quimper was struck by a fallen tree during Storm Ingrid on Friday evening, leaving several passengers injured and causing major disruption to rail traffic in western France.
The train, carrying around 200 passengers, collided with a large tree that had fallen onto the tracks amid violent weather conditions. The impact shattered a window inside one of the carriages and forced the train to stop for nearly three hours before it could resume its journey at reduced speed.
Witnesses described a sudden and powerful shock. Some passengers reported that flying glass injured a traveler seated near the broken window, who was later evacuated by emergency services. Others compared the impact to a derailment, highlighting the intensity of the collision and the fear felt on board.
Emergency responders, including dozens of firefighters, were deployed to the scene. At least five people were reported injured, while rail services on the Quimper–Landerneau line were delayed or suspended for several hours before operations gradually returned to normal.
The incident occurred as Storm Ingrid swept across the region, causing widespread disruption and raising concerns about the safety of transport infrastructure during extreme weather events.
