Putin says Ukraine conflict May be nearing its end
Russian President Vladimir Putin stated on Saturday that he believes the conflict in Ukraine could be approaching its conclusion, raising renewed speculation about possible diplomatic efforts to end the war that began in 2022.
Speaking during discussions with reporters, Putin said he felt the situation was “coming to an end,” while offering limited details about what could lead to a final settlement. The Russian leader also indicated that direct talks with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy would only be possible after a broader peace agreement is prepared.
The conflict between Russia and Ukraine has become one of the most significant geopolitical crises in recent decades. Since the Russian military intervention in 2022, relations between Moscow and Western countries have deteriorated sharply, increasing tensions across Europe and beyond.
Putin also suggested that he prefers maintaining communication with European leaders through former German Chancellor Gerhard Schröder, who has historically maintained close ties with Moscow.
Despite occasional discussions about negotiations, fighting has continued in several regions, while international actors continue calling for a diplomatic resolution. Analysts say any future agreement would likely require complex negotiations involving security guarantees, territorial questions, and reconstruction efforts.
The war has had global economic and political consequences, affecting energy markets, food supplies, and international security policies. Governments around the world continue monitoring developments closely as uncertainty remains over the future of the conflict.
