Prince Harry and Meghan Support the Invictus Games in Vancouver
Prince Harry and Meghan showed their enthusiasm as Team UK entered the stage at the opening ceremony of the Invictus Games. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex attended the event in Vancouver for the seventh edition of the games, which Prince Harry founded in 2014. The ceremony featured performances by artists such as Chris Martin, Nelly Furtado, and Katy Perry.
During the event, Brendan Nelson, President of Boeing International, highlighted Prince Harry's contribution to the games, stating: "Prince Harry has given duty, courage, hope, and love a name—Invictus." As Nelson expressed pride in Harry’s achievements, Meghan clapped and affectionately touched her husband's face, showing her support. Earlier in the day, she shared a video of herself posing for photos with Team USA and hugging a member of Team Canada on her Instagram story.
Meghan’s presence emphasized her commitment to supporting her husband's work and the Invictus mission, which unites over 500 competitors from 23 nations. This year's games also introduced winter sports for the first time.
The games were established to provide a platform for veterans and active-duty personnel who have sustained life-altering injuries. A group of 62 such competitors from the UK arrived in Canada this week to take part. The previous Invictus Games were held in Düsseldorf in 2023, with the next event set for Birmingham in 2027, marking the games' return to the UK.
The Invictus Games were inspired by Prince Harry’s experience at the 2013 Warrior Games, where he witnessed firsthand how sports helped injured service members in their recovery. The first games, held in London, included 400 competitors from 13 countries.
For Harry and Meghan, the Invictus Games have been significant in their personal journey. They made their public debut as a couple at the 2017 Toronto Invictus Games and later attended the 2018 event just days after announcing their pregnancy. In 2020, shortly after the birth of their son Archie, Prince Harry traveled to the Netherlands for the Invictus Games, which had to be postponed to 2022 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Meghan has also been busy with upcoming projects, including the release of her Netflix series With Love, Meghan, set to premiere on March 4th after delays caused by wildfires in Los Angeles.
