Openai expands enterprise push as cognizant joins codex rollout partners

OpenAI is expanding its enterprise strategy by adding Cognizant to a growing network of consulting partners tasked with deploying its AI coding agent Codex across large organizations. The move reflects a broader effort to accelerate adoption of AI tools in business environments as the company sharpens its focus on enterprise clients.

The partnership builds on OpenAI’s “Frontier Alliances” program, launched earlier this year to combine its engineering teams with major consulting firms. Existing collaborators include Accenture, Capgemini, Boston Consulting Group, and McKinsey & Company. These alliances aim to support enterprises in integrating AI agents into workflows ranging from software development to sales and customer service operations.

Cognizant said it will embed Codex across the full software development lifecycle for its clients, including model creation, code refactoring, and modernization of legacy systems. Additional partnerships continue to expand, with CGI announcing a global alliance earlier this year and PwC highlighting its use of AI tools in enterprise advisory services. OpenAI executives say these collaborations are critical for deploying AI in complex corporate environments.

The push comes amid intensifying competition with Anthropic, which has gained traction in enterprise markets with its Claude Code platform. Industry estimates suggest Anthropic’s coding tools generate more than 2.5 billion dollars in annual revenue, with overall annualized revenue surpassing that of OpenAI. OpenAI’s enterprise segment currently accounts for about 40 percent of its revenue and is expected to match its consumer business by the end of 2026.

Adoption of Codex has accelerated rapidly. Chief executive Sam Altman recently said the platform surpassed 3 million weekly users, up from roughly 2 million a month earlier. The company has introduced major updates that expand Codex beyond a coding assistant into a broader workspace tool, adding background computing control, integrated browsing, image generation, memory features, and dozens of plugin integrations.

The strategic shift reflects a clear prioritization of enterprise AI and developer tools. OpenAI leadership has directed internal teams to focus on coding products and business clients as part of preparations for a potential public offering later in 2026. The company is targeting a valuation that could approach 1 trillion dollars, underscoring the scale of its ambitions in the rapidly evolving AI market.
