Mark Zuckerberg expands his property portfolio with historic Irish mansion
Meta founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg has acquired a historic mansion in Ireland, adding another high-profile property to his growing real estate portfolio. The value of the transaction has not been disclosed.
Zuckerberg purchased Strancally Castle, a Gothic Revival-style estate in County Waterford in southeastern Ireland. The property was acquired from British businessman Michael Allen-Buckley and his wife, Giancarla, who comes from the Forté family, known for its longstanding presence in Britain’s luxury hotel industry.
The historic residence dates back to 1827, when it was built for an English politician. The three-storey property is located roughly 150 kilometers southwest of Dublin and has undergone extensive restoration work over the past two decades to preserve its architectural character.
A spokesperson for Zuckerberg said that the entrepreneur and his family were pleased to continue caring for the historic residence and looked forward to spending more time in Ireland. Meta has maintained its international headquarters in the country, making Ireland an important location for the technology company.
The acquisition comes after reports that Zuckerberg had already shown interest in the Irish property market. The Wall Street Journal previously reported that the Meta chief had contacted several major property owners in the country, including American businessman John Malone, to inquire about one of his estates.
Zuckerberg’s latest purchase reflects the continued interest of wealthy technology executives in historic European properties. Such estates can serve not only as private residences but also as long-term investments, while their preservation can contribute to maintaining important examples of local architectural heritage.
The Irish acquisition adds to Zuckerberg’s substantial real estate holdings and further strengthens his personal connection with a country that has played a significant role in Meta’s international operations.
