Morocco Leverages Peaceful Nuclear Technologies for Sustainable Development

The recent annual meeting of the International Atomic Energy Agency's African Regional Cooperative Agreement witnessed the Minister of Energy Transition and Sustainable Development, Leila Benali, highlighting Morocco's commitment to utilizing peaceful nuclear applications for driving economic and human development. In her address in Rabat, Minister Leila Benali underscored Morocco's longstanding dedication to the safe and responsible use of nuclear energy and its associated technologies, particularly in crucial sectors such as agriculture, health, water management, and industry. She emphasized how these peaceful nuclear applications serve as a cornerstone of sustainable development nationwide.

Minister Leila Benali elucidated how Morocco's New Development Model, a strategic roadmap extending to 2035, solidifies the country's comprehensive approach in harnessing nuclear advantages to address complex challenges. She stressed that safety and security remain paramount, ensuring that these technologies are deployed safely and accountably in alignment with Morocco's long-term inclusive vision. Additionally, Minister Leila Benali reiterated Morocco's commitment to international nuclear safety, security, liability, and safeguards conventions through the IAEA. Through cooperation and stringent regulation, she affirmed that peaceful nuclear power can significantly contribute to powering priority areas outlined in the New Development Model, spanning economic and human growth to territorial resilience.
