Iran Declares Three-Day Public Holiday In Tehran Ahead Of Funeral Ceremonies

Iranian authorities have announced a three-day public holiday in the capital, Tehran, ahead of the funeral ceremonies for Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, according to state media reports.

The decision was confirmed by officials overseeing the funeral arrangements, who stated that the capital will observe official closure during the period of national mourning.

According to reports broadcast by Iranian state television, farewell ceremonies and funeral prayers for the late leader are scheduled to take place over several days in early July at Tehran’s Grand Mosalla, a major religious and public gathering venue.

Officials indicated that the ceremonies will begin over the weekend, followed by the main funeral procession on Monday, with Tehran province observing a full suspension of official activities during this period.

Earlier statements from state media suggested that the holiday arrangements may be extended beyond the capital, with nationwide observance expected on the final day of the mourning period.

Authorities have described the arrangements as part of a broader national tribute, reflecting the political and religious significance of the late Supreme Leader within Iran’s governing system.

The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has been involved in coordinating logistical and security preparations for the ceremonies, which are expected to draw large crowds from across the country.

National mourning periods of this scale are typically marked by the closure of government institutions, schools, and many private sector activities, as well as large-scale public gatherings honoring senior political and religious figures.

The announcement comes amid a sensitive political moment in the country, with state institutions emphasizing unity and continuity during the transition period following the death of the long-serving leader.
